The Detroit Diesel Series 60 oil pump is a positive displacement pump that draws oil from the oil pan and pumps it through the engine to lubricate its various components. The pump is driven by a gear located on the crankshaft and is located at the bottom of the engine block, near the oil pan.

The Series 60 oil pump has a cast aluminum housing that contains two gears, an outer rotor and an inner rotor. The outer rotor has teeth that mesh with the teeth on the inner rotor, creating chambers that vary in size as the rotors rotate.
